One of the best things about my job is that I get to meet and get to know so many authors. Whether it’s here on the blog, at publishing industry events, through my consulting and design work, or in the training courses I’ve been offering.

Every author’s story is unique, and that’s one of the things that makes book publishing endlessly fascinating. Every story has its place. Every author has readers just waiting—whether they know it or not—to read those books.

But that’s something unpublished authors don’t know yet.

One of the authors I met last year is Karen McCann, who went through the Self-Publishing Roadmap course.

self-publishing

Karen is a professional writer who had successfully published with a traditional publisher. When she came to the course, she was getting ready to publish Dancing in the Fountain.

Her book tells the story of Karen and Rich McCann’s move from middle America to Seville, Spain, a remarkable and life-changing adventure.

In this excerpt, we join the interview as Karen describes how she discovered the Self-Publishing Roadmap. It was recorded about a week after her book’s publication date in September.

In the interview Karen talks about

  • why she was looking for guidance to get started in publishing,
  • the importance of structure to reaching her goals, and
  • how she leveraged the instruction on marketing in social media.

Making it possible for authors like Karen to get their books into the market, to the readers who will love and be inspired, entertained and educated by them, is what the Roadmap is all about.

I really appreciate Karen taking time out of her schedule to sit down and do this interview, and I’d love to hear your reactions, so let me know in the comments.
