This Week in the Blogs, July 8 – 14, 2017

by Joel Friedlander on July 16, 2017 3 Comments

Another weekend, another selection of great articles on self-publishing and marketing your books. Enjoy!

Richard Bradburn on Self-Publishing Advice Center
Writing: What are Beta Readers and Why and How Should Indie Authors Use Them?
“Whether or not indie authors employ professional editors and proofreaders, beta readers will help you make your book more likely to please its eventual purchasers. Many indie authors skip this step because they don’t understand the concept.”

Melissa Bowersock on Indies Unlimited
Republishing Your Old Books
“There comes a time in almost every writer’s life when you need or decide to republish an earlier book. It may be because the first edition was packaged according to a traditional publisher’s ideas (which may or may not have aligned with yours), or it may be because you want to update the book, correct some early-writer faux pas, or just do a general spring cleaning.”

Frances Caballo on Social Media Just For Writers
Turn Your Blog into a Book Production Machine with Nina Amir
“I recently interviewed Inspiration to Creation Coach Nina Amir as part of my Conversations with Frances series. We talked about blogging, how to blog a book, and what blogging has done for Nina’s life and career. Be sure to listen to the webinar. I’m certain you’ll learn a lot.”

Anne R. Allen on Anne R. Allen’s Blog… with Ruth Harris
An Interview with Audible Narrator C. S. Perryess
“The Alliance of Independent authors (Alli) says all indies should branch into audiobooks. But how does an indie author afford the initial expense of hiring a narrator? One answer: go through the “royalty share” program at Audible, the audiobooks wing of Amazon.”

Sandra Beckwith on Build Book Buzz
Naming and claiming your author website
“You need an author website. (No, you can’t use a Facebook Page in place of an author website.) So the question isn’t the one I hear from so many authors — “Should I create a website?” The question is: “What should I use for my author website address?””

PageHabit

Hi, great post! I was wondering if you know anything about PageHabit’s publishing house? (I’m not sure if that’s the word for it.) Apparently, they accept manuscripts and publish books.

Why?
"Writers change the world one reader at a time. But you can't change the world with a book that's still on your hard drive or in a box under your bed. This blog exists to help you get that book into people's hands."
