This Week in the Blogs, January 9 – 15, 2016

More great posts for your reading pleasure filled with info and tips to help you with writing and self-publishing your books. Enjoy!

Book Promo Sites: How long do they work?
“As the IU minions sat around the gruel pot and discussed various promo sites, a trend seemed to present itself: almost everyone has seen a reduction in the effectiveness of these sites in the past year. Because of that, I’ve decided to be a little more open than I usually am regarding book sales and advertisements. This isn’t a humble brag, like people who drop into discussion boards and say, “Gee, my book has been out for two days already and I’ve only sold 325,957 copies. Am I doing okay?” Don’t you just want to throw something? On the flip side, it’s also not a whine or a whinge.”

Sophie Masson on Writer Unboxed
The Art and Craft of Author Interviews
“Author interviews are a fact of the writing life. Whether as interviewee or as interviewer, every author will inevitably have to gain some experience of the art and craft of author interviews. So how do you go about getting that experience?”

Sandra Beckwith on Build Book Buzz
How to promote a book without using social media
“Tired of trying to figure out how to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest effectively to promote your book? … Do you wish there were other options that are a better fit for your style, skills, personality, or preferences? … Do you want to know how to promote a book without using social media? … You are not alone. Keep reading.”

Molly Greene on Molly Greene: Writer
BookFunnel: Low-Cost Ebook Giveaway Hosting
“Many authors offer a free ebook to readers who subscribe to their email lists. Say you include a link in every ebook offering the next book in your series FREE when the reader signs up for your email list. How do you get that book to these subscribers painlessly?”

Dan Wagstaff on Casual Optimist
Book Covers of Note January 2016
“Oof. Hello, January. This is all rather soon isn’t it? But here we are, a new month, and another selection of new book covers (with a few ‘old’ ones that I missed in the excitement at the end of 2015). Happy New Year…”

You never let me down. There is always something timely to my needs. Social media is not my thing, yet when the right fit comes, everything falls into place. The trick is to listen to yourself about what that right fit is. Thanks to all for all the possible “right fits”.

    Hey Joel,

thanks for the post, however there seems to be an issue with the template, it looks slightly out of whack and the social icons overlap the text.

Why?
"Writers change the world one reader at a time. But you can't change the world with a book that's still on your hard drive or in a box under your bed. This blog exists to help you get that book into people's hands."
