This Week in the Blogs, May 13 – 19, 2012

by Joel Friedlander on May 20, 2012 4 Comments

Another good week for the bloggers who are out to help you get your books published and profitable. Ebooks, audio books, understanding Amazon (a continuing story) and some quick help for your marketing efforts. I’ve added a link to a guest post that ran on the essential Copyblogger.com site as well. Have fun!

Julie Isaac on Writing Spirit
Are You Ready to Become a Successful Ebook Author? Here’s How…
“I can’t guarantee how many ebooks anyone will sell as there are far too many variables to consider, but I can say with certainty that if you want to be a successful ebook author then it’s important to build a strong foundation. Too many skimp on this aspect of ebook publishing…”

Bob Mayer on Write It Forward
SOP for Authors Using Audible ACX
“Audible ACX is an extremely user-friendly system allowing authors to produce their titles in audiobook format and make them available across a variety of platforms. The information listed below contains my experiences and lessons learned using ACX over the past six months.”

Updates to Amazon’s Book Ranking Algorithms: The Death of 99-Cent Ebooks? An End to KDP Select Perks?
“Ever wonder how Amazon’s ranking algorithms work? Why one book gets recommended to readers and another doesn’t? The difference between the popularity lists and the bestseller lists?”

Catherine Ryan Howard on Catherine, Caffeinated
Selling Self-Published Books: The Amazing Amazon
“You have to make sure your book can tread water for long enough that its head always stays above the water line on Amazon, instead of sinking down into the black depths of the abyss where not even the most determined Kindle owner will ever find it.”

Jane Friedman on Jane Friedman
4 Ways to Immediately Improve Your Book Marketing Efforts
“When I see bad book marketing out in the wild, I wish I could do something productive to help that author (or sometimes publisher!) see how they’re wasting their time.”

3 Simple Ways to Turn Your Website Archive into Profitable Books and eBooks

Great list there. I’m currently writing a book on design and wondered how to go about getting it out there.

The Amazon post especially has made me think about how I market it. So many things to consider! Thanks.

Thank you for including me on your list of “must read” blog posts for the week!!! I’m honored. I also thank you for the link to Lindsay Buroker’s blog and the article there about Amazon Algorithms. That’s a great one. And your post at Copyblogger is spot on! Blog archives are a great resource for book and ebook material. Past posts can be turned into a short ebook, an ebook series, or a full-length ebook or POD paperback! This is an exciting time to be a writer!!

Why?
"Writers change the world one reader at a time. But you can't change the world with a book that's still on your hard drive or in a box under your bed. This blog exists to help you get that book into people's hands."
