The last gasps of winter (hopefully!) are bearing down upon us as I write this. I hope it’s warm and toasty wherever you are, and that you enjoy this week’s selection of great articles on self-publishing.

John Doppler on Self-Publishing Advice Center
KDP Paperbacks: A First Look
“The integration of ebook and print-on-demand publishing on Amazon is something authors have been requesting for years, so the introduction of KDP Paperbacks was greeted with interest. Let’s examine what KDP Paperbacks has to offer in the early stages of its rollout.”

Big Al on Indies Unlimited
Oops. That Book Review’s Not Verified
“Way, way back in September of 2013 I wrote an article about verified reviews. In the world of Indie publishing, especially where anything directly related to Amazon is concerned, three-and-a-half years is a lifetime. Much of what I wrote then is either no longer true or suspect.”

Stephanie Chandler on Nonfiction Authors Association
Leveraging Social Media
“Each month, the Nonfiction Authors Association asks a burning publishing question of the industry’s best, brightest, and most innovative experts. Here’s what they have to say!”

Anne R. Allen on Anne R. Allen’s Blog… With Ruth Harris
Your Author Bio: Does it help your Book Sales or Stop Them Dead?
“No matter how great a book’s cover and blurb, one thing can stop me from buying yet another ebook for my Kindle: an author bio on the buy page that screams “amateur.””

Kristen Lamb on Kristen Lamb
Mistakes Were Made & The HIGH Cost of Free
“As digital age authors we have challenges and responsibilities unique to the time we are in. Namely, our job has become vastly more complex. This is why it is really important to get the right information from the get-go.”

Too Good To Miss

Esra Gurkan on Mail Online
Ingenious photos capture literature lovers bringing their favourite covers to life
“An independent book store in France is giving a whole new meaning to the term ‘Facebook’ – thanks to its playful staff’s antics behind the scenes at work.”

Self-Publishing News You Can Use

By Amy Collins

Netflix scouting manuscripts and books for their projects

Netflix has retained international literary consulting company Maria B. Campbell Associates as exclusive literary scouts for the internet TV network in New York and the UK. This is the first time Netflix, which has been ramping up production of original movies and series, has hired literary scouts. Annabelle Saks in New York and Katie McCalmont in London are the agents who will be spearheading the scouting for Netflix. At the moment, MBC Associates does not accept any unsolicited manuscripts, so if you are interested in working with them, please do NOT send them your works without getting their permission first.. Working with an agent who can approach them is another great option.
