This Week in the Blogs, September 6 – 12, 2014

by Joel Friedlander on September 14, 2014 2 Comments

Can’t believe it’s Sunday again already! Where does the time go? Whether you’re lounging about enjoying the weekend or working hard on your writing and self-publishing projects, I hope you can find time for this week’s great articles.

Nate Hoffelder on The Digital Reader
Twitter Launches Buy Buttons, Enabling Authors to Sell eBooks on the Service
“Twitter announced a new service yesterday which indie authors might like….The social network started a beta test for new buy buttons. The test will only include a small percentage of U.S. users, and it is only visible on Twitter’s mobile apps, so most of us will be unaffected. But in the long run indie authors will have a new sales platform.”

Mick Rooney on The Independent Publishing Magazine
Publishing Service Index: September 2014
“This is the PUBLISHING SERVICE INDEX for September 2014. This update reflects some review updates and author feedback over the past eight weeks. CreateSpace drops from the top spot to second, with Amazon KDP back where it was in June. Both have swapped places several times over the past few months.”

JA Konrath on JA Konrath
Ebook Sales Down? Here Are 15 Tips!
“It happens to everyone…. Sales slump. Riding high in April, shot down in May.”

Frances Caballo on Social Media Just For Writers
34 Blogging Topics Just for Writers
“As I was traveling to Atlanta recently, a writer about to publish her first book sat next to me on the shuttle to the airport. Naturally, she started talking to me about her new website and blog. …What should I blog about, she asked?”

Penny Sansevieri on Author Marketing Experts, Inc.
Craft an Exceptional Elevator Pitch: Tip #21 of 52 Ways to Market Your Book
“So what is an elevator pitch and why do you need one? An elevator pitch is a short 1 to 2 sentence description about the book. It’s the briefest of the briefest descriptions you can come up with. The reason elevator pitches are important is that we have an ever shrinking attention span, and so you need to capture someone’s attention in a very short pitch.”

Hi, I have just got my first book published and in need of serious promotion. I don’t have a blog or anything like that so how do I get everyone to know about it? The company as done a press release and I have told a few people that told me that they would buy a copy but they haven’t bothered. What do I do?

Why?
"Writers change the world one reader at a time. But you can't change the world with a book that's still on your hard drive or in a box under your bed. This blog exists to help you get that book into people's hands."
