This Week in the Blogs, February 6 – 12, 2011

by Joel Friedlander on February 13, 2011 3 Comments

I spent half the day with self-publishers, editors and book designers, book shepherds, authors and publicists at the monthly meeting of BAIPA. I love the collegial and cooperative spirit of indie publishing, and encourage people to find a local publishing group if there’s one in your area. Lots of good reading this week, and a bit of fun. Enjoy.

Mick Rooney on POD, Self Publishing and Independent Publishing
Self-Publishing Index: Criteria Explained
“I thought with the release of the February 2011 Self-Publishing Index that I would try and provide a little more detail behind how the Index is put together and what criteria is used.”

Kristen J. Tsetsi and R.J. Keller on Inside the Writer’s Studio
Interview with April Hamilton and Zoe Winters
“Inside The Writers’ Studio talks to April and Zoe about their books, about the conflict between the traditional and indie publishing worlds, and about what makes a good self-publisher.”

Carol Memmott on USA Today
Authors catch fire with self-published e-books
“‘Selling e-books on Kindle and Barnesandnoble.com basically changed my life,’ Mallory says. ‘I never would have gotten where I am today if I hadn’t.'”

James Moushon on Self-Publishing Review
Amazon Has Some REAL Good News and They Have Some Great News for e-Textbook and eBook Users
“Amazon has announced changes to their Kindle software.”

Phill English on Tooth Soup
Self-publishing and some advice for emerging writers
“That’s right, your piece of finely-wrought prose is a product. I’m going to say it again, in bold, just to be sure. Your writing is a product. If you are taking the self-publishing route, you absolutely cannot afford to kid yourself about this.”

And for Something Completely Different. . .

Maughta on Judge a Book by its Cover
Skirts! It must be Phallic Phriday?
“Anyone else waiting for that sword to slice through the belt and the kilt to sliiiiiiiide down. . .”

My pleasure, Kristen, just put me down as a Paper Rats fan. You might consider submitting some of your posts to our Carnival of the Indies.

Why?
"Writers change the world one reader at a time. But you can't change the world with a book that's still on your hard drive or in a box under your bed. This blog exists to help you get that book into people's hands."
