Publishers are quick to remind us of the unique nature of their roles and how much publishing is a risk, but even the betting industry ensures the risks taken are stacked wholly in its favour.”

    This says it all–GREAT quotation. I have nothing against traditional publishing, believe me, but the business model they’re using is unsustainable. I’d love for them to be closer to Rooney’s vision–“full service.” Putting their knowledge and experience to work for great authors–big and small–so that EVERYONE benefits. Good stuff. :-)

    Great list Joel but too distracting this week. :)

    John Kremer’s site looks full of valuable stuff on marketing and I always enjoy reading Joe Konrath, although he sometimes takes two sentences when one will do. I have been following Joe for 2 years and he speaks a lot of sense, although I doubt he will ever get in the US Diplomatic Corps :) Nick Thacker’s article is interesting because I have heard great things about Scrivener. Judith Briles’ article on AuthorU is useful and timely – do some marketing before the Christmas bulge. And finally Mick Rooney’s analysis of the state of the publishing industry’s flirtation with digital pubishing makes good reading – if I had shares in a traditional publisher I would offload them now as they don’t seem to be moving very fast.

    I’b better get back to my own marketing.
