This Week in the Blogs, October 29 – November 4, 2020

By Shelley Sturgeon

It’s been a rough week. It’s been a rough year. Close your eyes for just a minute, take a deep breath and remember the feeling of joy washing over you. If you don’t have to try to hard to find that feeling, well done! If it’s a struggle, shake the tension out of your shoulders, wiggle your toes, and take another deep breath. In your mind, visit your favorite happy place. Feel better now? I sure hope so. Want to escape the news headlines even a bit longer? Maybe read this week’s selection of great articles, too?

  • You can submit your best blog posts to our blog carnival, Self-Publishing: Carnival of the Indies, by midnight on Sunday, November 15th.

  • There is still time to submit your ebook covers for inclusion in November’s e-Book Cover Design Awards. Submissions are accepted until November 30th.

Be good to yourself and stay safe! See you back here next Friday.

Ev Bishop on Anne R. Allen’s Blog… with Ruth Harris
Branding 101 by Ev Bishop
“Does the idea of “branding” yourself or your work make you cringe? (I’m an artist, dammit—not a corporate sleaze bag!) Are you confused by what “branding” for novelists, essayists, poets, or even general non-fiction writers even means?”

Dan Wagstaff on The Casual Optimist
Book Covers of Note, October 2020
“As it is almost the end of October this is going to be my last monthly round-up for 2020.”

Barbara Linn Probst on Jane Friedman
Should You Hire a Social Media Assistant?
“I’ve heard many authors—myself included—express frustration and dismay at the expectation that we will not only produce wonderful books, but also carry out what amounts to a second full-time job as our own marketing team.”

Lisa Tener on Lisa Tener Book Writing Coach
Be a Star on Camera: A Guide to Nail TV Interviews & Videos
“As an author, once it’s time to promote your book, it comes in handy to be able to wow viewers in your media and TV interviews.”

Frances Caballo on Social Media Just for Writers
Blogs for Authors
“It’s been too long since I last compiled a list of blogs for authors. I thought it was time to revisit this topic.”

Why?
"Writers change the world one reader at a time. But you can't change the world with a book that's still on your hard drive or in a box under your bed. This blog exists to help you get that book into people's hands."
