Will you be participating in NaNoWriMo or NaNonFiWriMo this year? If so, be sure to check out the articles on these two great November writing challenges that I’ve included in this week’s roundup of posts from some of the best writing and self-publishing blogs on the web.

Carla King on BookWorks
A Book Production Checklist for Indie Authors
“Are you ready to upload your book for sale to the online retailers? Got all your front and back matter, images, fonts, and ISBNs? Use this checklist to make sure you’ve done everything you can to create a quality book that competes with books produced in the traditional publishing houses.”

Amazon’s New Review Rules: Should Authors Be Worried?
“Amazon has been tweaking its customer review rules. Some revisions appeared in late September and others debuted early in October. … So how do they affect authors? Should we be worried? Is the Amazon Review Inquisition going to excommunicate more reviewers and banish our reviews?”

9 Tips to Building the Book Cover Design You Always Wanted
“Your book cover design is what draws people into the story you crafted from only a blank page and an idea. It is likely the image that your readers will most associate with your story, so let’s look at nine ways you can start building the cover design you always wanted.”

Your handy NaNoWriMo prep
“Yes, your favorite annual torture device writing festival is nearly upon us, where thousands of intrepid novelists will set aside November cheer in favor of tearing up their laptops in an effort to write a novel in just one month. It’s called NaNoWriMo, and it’s quite something.”

Nina Amir on Write Nonfiction Now
6 QuestVisualization Tools for a 30-day Writing Challengeions with Sarah Fine About the Author-Editor Relationship
“I’ve been lucky enough to spend much of my editing career as a serial monogamist in working with a handful of writers. Working on multiple projects together is like any LTR: You build a sort of shorthand that improves the flow and eases the give-and-take. You trust each other more, so delivering the hard messages isn’t as hard. You know each other’s quirks and sensibilities, and accept them with more generosity. You get to have fun.”

Kindle Unlimited Admits Read Reports to Authors Shorted Over Last Few Months

If you are participating in Kindle Unlimited, you need to take a very close look at your read reports since July. For the last few months, authors have been reporting that their page read counts on new releases have been misreported. This glitch seems to only be affecting new releases since July. Several sites are reporting that the problem is due to the “page flip” function upgrade launched in June and July allowed readers to read the entire book.

Authors have taken to discussion boards and online chat rooms to compare results. Last week, Amazon admitted that there were problems with the system and the reporting and have committed to addressing author’s concerns.

It was announced earlier this week that if you have books enrolled in KDP Select and you believe your “page reads” are higher than reported, you can send an email to [email protected] or [email protected]. You will need to provide them with data and explain why your numbers don’t look right.
