It may be the middle of July, but that doesn’t mean bloggers aren’t posting some amazing articles, and I’m here to collect them for you. How about another self-publishing story, some e-book cover advice, a proposal on e-book pricing, e-books and apps, and forming your own publishing company. Take it to the beach with you.

Brunonia Barrya on Writer Unboxed
Adventures in Self-Publishing
“In order to be successful, a writer has to understand sales and marketing and be willing to step into those roles. That’s a good idea for any writer these days, but it is imperative in self-publishing.”

Piotr Kowalczyk on Password Incorrect
Ebook Specific Cover Design: #1 – Context
“A different approach, free from constrains typical for print production – and taking into consideration circumstances typical for digital environment – can bring unexpected and stunning results.”

Henry Baum on Self-Publishing Review
Everyone Should Make Their Books Free
“I’m in the middle of an experiment with Amazon pricing. Around 6 weeks ago I set my novel to free on Smashwords (instead of pay what you like), sort of hitting myself for not doing this sooner.”

Jeff Barry on Soros Design Blog
When e-books are apps
“E-book apps such as Kindle and iBooks provide excellent capabilities for reading long, continuous prose whereas custom apps offer superior mechanisms for presenting narratives that significantly incorporate a range of options, including animation, audio, images, and video as well as new forms of interacting with the book.”

Sue Collier on Self-Publishing Resources
You’ve decided to go “indie”: What should you call your publishing company?
“When you embark on your self-publishing journey, keep in mind that publishing is a business. Everything from your professional-looking book cover right down to your publishing company name should reflect that.”

Video Interviews

The more I get involved with videos, the more I enjoy them. This past week I was interviewed by Dan Blank for his terrific blog We Grow Media. Dan has such a great way of running an interview that I picked up a few tips from him. Watch for his interview to appear soon.

A couple of days later I got to use those tips when I interviewed Tom Evans about his new book The Art and Science of Lightbulb Moments. This is a great book for anyone interested in creativity, and that comes out in the interview. I’ll post it early next week, so watch for that one too.

Is there anyone in the book world you’d like to see interviewed? I have my own list of “dream interviews” I’m working on, but it would be great to hear your ideas. Let me know in the comments.
