Children’s Book Templates Now at BookDesignTemplates.com

Are you a children’s book author who has been wondering what you’re going to do about getting your book interior ready for publication? Someone who has a desire to “do it yourself”?

If so, I have great news

Today on my BookDesignTemplates.com site, where we have templates for creating books in Microsoft Word, we’ve just unveiled 5 brand new templates for children’s books, and I think you’re really going to like them. And they are 40% off right now.

5 New Templates for All Kinds of Children’s Books

When we set out to expand our offerings beyond fiction and structured nonfiction, the request we received most often was for children’s books.

Unlike books for adult readers, these books are formatted to reflect the needs of the age range of the kids they are intended for.

I knew we would have to cover a lot of ground to make templates available to the widest range of authors. So instead of releasing them one at a time, Tracy and I decided to create the whole range and release them all at once.

Here’s what you’ll find at the site:

Picture books

Our Story template gives you the chance to lay out your picture book in an 8.5″ x 8.5″ format. This is a standard size and is available for full color or black and white printing at CreateSpace, Lightning Source, and other vendors.

Picture books of this kind use many different page layout styles. Instead of creating a different template for each style, we decided to create one template, but include 5 different page layout styles within it.

This gives you the opportunity to use one, two, or as many of the page layouts as you like. Here are a couple of samples:

These delightful illustrations (from Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit books), like all the graphics you’ll see in our children’s book templates, are public domain works to show how to place your own illustrations into the template.

Chapter Books

For early readers, we have 2 templates with different styles:

Delightful uses the Candela, Amadeus, and Lobster fonts to create a fun and easy to read experience:

Thrilling is set in Alegreya and Yeseva One to give it more of a bold look:

Pre-Teen Fiction

For children who are moving on to longer novels, we have 2 distinctly different templates.

Affection uses Crimson and Mountains of Christmas fonts to create a fun and irreverent environment with lots of details:

Quest is typeset in Permian Slab and Leander, which give it a forthright and highly readable text. The chapter opener is just an idea on how you might use an illustration that fits with your story.

A Complete Solution

As with our other templates, these new children’s book templates come with all the fonts needed to get the same result as in our samples, along with our newly-expanded Formatting Guide that walks you through how to use the templates for your own projects.

You can also grab a copy of our Book Construction Blueprint while you’re there. It’s a resource you’ll use again and again when creating your own books, and it’s free, too.

All our templates are guaranteed, so you have no risk if you want to try them out.

Okay, here’s the best part: during August, to celebrate this addition to our product line, all these new children’s book templates are 40% off.

You don’t even need a coupon code, since the discount will be automatically applied when you add one of the children’s book templates to your shopping cart.

Have a look and let me know what you think.

For the 8.5 × 8.5 picture book template am I able to upload my images as bleeding spreads? And then add text on top of the image?

You can for print. You can set the image to Word Wrap “Behind the text” and then spread it full page. Then you can place a text box over the image.

For ebooks, you will have to upload the PDF and it will be a fixed format ebook.

Thank you for sharing these great templates! I’m wondering if there is an option for an 8.5 x 11 wide version of the ‘Story’ template?

    Thanks again,
    Sarah

      Hey Sarah!

We do not have an 8.5×11 version of Story, but we would be happy to create one for you. If you don’t mind giving us an email at Book Design Templates we can figure out what you need and create it for you.

      Thank you,
      Tracy

        Hi,
Do you know where I can get illustrations that are already designed and used to fit a manuscript?

I tried to buy the media kit from the listed website on the webinar and was not able to find a link that took me to it. Is there a problem? I will try again tomorrow.

    Hi Joel –
I’m working with my illustrator on a children’s chapter book series right now. Will these templates load at Create Space or do they need to be formatted first?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

I was hoping to upload to Createspace as well. Did your template upload ok?

Michelle and Tiffany, the templates need no additional formatting once you’ve finished applying styles and laying out your book in Word. At that point you just (use our instructions in the Formatting Guide to) output a PDF. Literally thousands of authors have used our templates to print their books with CreateSpace—they work!

    Joel –
If I pick up the Affection template, is it compatible if I intend to go with a print output of 5.5 x 8.5, or am I stuck with 5.06 x 7.81?

    • Joel Friedlander

Justin, the templates are sized at 5.06″ x 7.81,” but they are not locked in any way, so if you want to re-size and adjust the template, there’s nothing stopping you from doing so.
