The autumn leaves have just started falling in my neighborhood as the nights are (finally!) getting colder and days are getting shorter. I absolutely love the autumn–all the color, the crispness in the air and even the smell of the fallen leaves. What is your favorite time of the year?

Did you participate in any events for the third annual Indie Author Day yesterday? If you’re psyching yourself up to participate in NaNoWriMo or NaNonFiWriMo in November, you won’t want to miss Nina Amir’s article below and do take the time to read the other great articles, too. You’ll be glad that you did.

Dan Wagstaff on The Casual Optimist
Book Covers of Note October 2018
“Here are the book covers that caught my eye this month…”

Judith Briles on The Book Shepherd
Is the Publishing World Turning? Yes, yes it is …
“Publishing is morphing on a daily basis … If you are a new author, you’ve got publishing questions. Plenty of them. If you are an already published author, you should have publishing questions. Plenty of them.”

David Gaughran on David Gaughran
Kindle Unlimited – A Cheater Magnet
“I don’t hate Kindle Unlimited. While all my own books are currently wide, I also work on marketing campaigns for others which regularly get 10m reads per month, or more. I’m not saying that to brag — the respective authors are doing the hardest part of the equation by writing books which resonate so widely — I merely state this to show that I understand how to (ethically) work Kindle Unlimited, and that I have nothing against it per se.”

Nina Amir on Writer’s Digest
NaNoWriMo (and NaNonFiWriMo) Prep: Your 30-Day Writing Challenge Preparation Checklist
“When you register for a personal development class, the transformation begins immediately. It’s as if your commitment—putting money down and scheduling the time on your calendar—starts your mind working toward bettering yourself. … When you decide to take on a 30-day writing challenge, like National Nonfiction Writing Month (NaNonFiWriMo)—the Write Nonfiction in November Challenge—or during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a similar thing happens.”

Dave Chesson on Jane Friedman
How to Understand Your Reader’s Level of Awareness to Grow Your Fanbase
“The more educated a customer is about a product, the more they’ll understand what they are looking for—and therefore be more likely to buy it.”
