Years ago I wrote an article for my blog titled, “How Freewriting Saved My Life.”
Does that sound over the top? I assure you it wasn’t.
I had suffered through many years of being—as my free-writing teacher put it—a “crushed creative.”
There were many things I wanted to write, but I felt cut off from my own imagination, from the creative flow.
It was incredibly frustrating and dispiriting. Years went by, and I was unable to break through whatever it was that was holding me back.
I even wrote a book during this period, and a lot of “corporate communications,” but there wasn’t much of a spark.
It wasn’t until I came across a workshop in this strange practice called free-writing (or freewriting, or f-r-e-e writing) that I finally had the breakthrough I had longed for.
I wrote about this in the early days of my blog, because it was the only way to explain how, as a new blogger (and not the youngest chicken in the coop) I could write and publish 5 articles a week, month after month. How? Free-writing.
What is free-writing? Why should you care? Here’s what my friend and colleague Orna Ross has to say, and she’s someone who has taught this practice for many years:
