Spring has come on with a vengence, and we’ve had several days that are so beautiful you can’t help but be optimistic. This week we’ve got more on e-books, great resources for self-publishers, and some help for writers to get unstuck. Enjoy!

J.A. Konrath on A Newbie’s Guide to Publishing
What Works: Promo for Ebooks
“There are no longer any gatekeepers. But that doesn’t mean being a writer has gotten easier. You want the real secret for success? Work your ass off until you succeed, no matter how long it takes.”

Meredith Greene on Greene Ink
Try-Outs for Self-Publishing Platforms
“Over the last two weeks I’ve sent out inquiries to fellow writers, some of whom allowed me to ‘pick’ their brains for both opinions of–and personal experiences with–many online self-publishing platforms available to writers of eBooks.”

James Moushon on Self-Publishing Review
Ebook Authors: 17 Great Information Sources
“I think research is a key element in an indie’s quest for success so I spend a lot of time reading blogs and books on publishing and writing. I did a little research on my research and this is what I came up with. These are my favorites.”

Bob Mayer on Write It Forward
What Does It Take To Succeed in Self-Publishing?
“The same as it does in traditional publishing. Good books. A lot of hard work. Focus. Consistency. Accepting that marketing is an integral part of being a writer.”

Susan Daffron on Self-Publishing Resources
The 5 questions that can save your book
“When you’re stuck, sometimes it helps to ask questions. Whether you call it playing “devil’s advocate” or give it a more highbrow term like the “Socratic Method,” simply asking questions can be a great way to get a book project back on track.”

A Self-Publisher’s Companion

Lots of requests from reviewers this week for review copies, always a happy event for a publisher. It’s hard enough to stand out from the crowd of books, so people willing to review your book are really valuable.

I was lucky this week to get another review, this one from another author:

Joel Friedlander’s A Self-Publisher’s Companion—A Review
on The Self-Publisher’s Notebook by Kevin Sivils
“The book is well organized and easy to use. This is a valuable reference manual I will use over and over, particular the section on design.”

This week online book marketer Tony Eldridge left a review on Amazon that starts off this way:
“Every now and then a book comes along that I discover is an essential tool in the author’s must-have resources. A Self-Publisher’s Companion is one of those tools without question.”

Marketing your books never really ends, because the opportunities to take your message to new readers keep appearing.

And I did lower the price of the Kindle and Nook editions. It’s now $4.99. I don’t know how long I’ll leave the book at that price, but that’s where it is for now. If you want to get a copy, here are the links:
