I’ve had several books and reports converted to ebook formats recently, and it’s remarkable how each version is different, and shows the mark of the person doing the conversion. Kindle publishing is a big subject this week, and the iPad has extended its functionality for publishers. Add to that ways that writers can improve themselves and their craft. Enjoy!

Caroline Cray on Digital Book World
Best Practices for Amazon eBook Sales
“I recommend that you think of your book’s Amazon.com page as a ¼ page ad in a glossy magazine. You want to build excitement, hype, and the urge to buy rather than dutifully explaining your product.”

George Angus on Tumblemoose
The Ten Steps to Writing Success
“Anyone can have writing success, it just depends on how much success they want, and how willing they are to take the necessary steps. Here are ten steps that, if followed, can help to ensure the writing success you seek.”

Steven Lewis on Kindle Writers
Four iPad apps for writers
“These are four iPhone apps I use as a writer in connection with my writing. None of them is specifically for authors or writing but these apps make real improvements to the way I work.”

Kathryn Craft on The Blood-Red Pencil
The Art of Chaptering
“In fiction, chaptering is often intuitive. The practice isn’t even as old as long-form fiction—it began in Great Britain so parts of books could be published in serial form.”

Charlotte Williams on FutureBook
New iBooks update opens door to fully illustrated publishing
“Apple’s latest version of its iBooks app, which allows e-books to have a pictorial layout similar to printed books and supports full page illustrations, has been hailed by one publisher as being ‘the beginning of a phenomenally exciting phase in picture book publishing'”
