Do you realize that we’re almost half way through August? Whether it’s hot and dry where you are this summer, or cool and damp, there are some great articles here again this week. So why not find a comfy spot and have a read, catch up on the latest news and information and try to forget that summer is nearly over.

Dan Wagstaff on The Casual Optimist
Book Covers of Note August 2016
“August is traditionally a slow month in publishing, but that isn’t to say there aren’t plenty of great covers around at this time of year…”

Jane Friedman on Jane Friedman
Why I Started Using Pop-Ups on My Website
“I’m not a fan of pop-ups. Like most of the Internet world, I find them at best a minor annoyance and at worst a reason to stop reading. I can’t recall a time that I ever signed up for someone’s email newsletter list as the result of a pop-up.”

Martin Crosbie on Indies Unlimited
Five Social Media Engagement Tips for Writers
“Did you know there’s an actual condition called “Social Media Fatigue”? Yes, there is. Are you feeling overwhelmed yet?”

Paul Teague on How-to For Authors
Book Marketing: A Quick Start Guide to Using MailChimp for the Email Marketing of Self-published Books
“Instead of writing a single email and adding cc to copy in many recipients, email marketing allows you to send personalised marketing emails to thousands of people at one time. They can be simple text emails or beautifully designed and branded emails, and they should contain links to your work.”

Kimberley Grabas on Your Writer Platform
Build An Epic Visual Strategy for Your Author Brand
“The visual trend in marketing is inescapable. … Short attention spans combined with an unparalleled surge of information (and distraction) requires a medium that can convey a message, a story, your entire essence, all at once.”
